Located in north-central Tennessee, Montgomery County is about 30 miles NW of Nashville and is positioned along the Tennessee-Kentucky state line. Montgomery County has a large number of historic sites, yet is also one of the most progressive counties in the region due to the fast-growing Metropolitan city, Clarksville. Montgomery County is large with a total area of 544 square miles, 5 of which is water.  Montgomery County has a population of 172,331, with a majority stemming from the fifth-largest town of Tennessee - Clarksville.  Situated at the confluence of the Cumberland and Red Rivers and West of I-24, Clarksville was established as the county seat in 1796 when Tennessee became the 16th state in the U.S.  Montgomery County was named for a settler, John Montgomery, the founder of Clarksville and well-known Indian fighter and Revolutionary War leader.  Montgomery County is also home to the Fort Campbell Army Military Base where the 101st Airborne Division resides - the only Air Assault Division in the world!

Montgomery County offers facilities for any recreational activity, including Cumberland Heights, Woodlawn Park and Lake Barkley and Dunbar Lake as well.  Dunbar Cave State Natural Area makes an excellent afternoon trip if you are a history buff.  It is approximately 110 acres which encompasses “Dunbar Cave,” which was explored by prehistoric Indians.
